Cost of skip bin hire

At Earth Wise Skips, we provide inexpensive skip bin hire and waste removal solutions for our Sunshine Coast commercial and residential customers.

A skip bin is a cheap and simple way to get large piles of rubbish off your property. You just jump on the phone, get a bin delivered, fill it up and have it taken away again. That’s pretty good service!

One of the most common questions we get asked is ‘How much is a skip bin to hire?’ The reality is that there’s no simple answer – it depends on various factors.

Here we’ll discuss some of the costs involved in hiring a skip bin and how you can save money by avoiding a few common problems.

The factors in the cost of your skip bin hire

The size of your bin

We have various bins sizes depending on how much rubbish you have – 2, 3,4, 6 and 8 cubic metres. They increase in cost as the size increase, but even our largest is great value!

See our bin sizes page for your options.

The type of waste you have

The cost of your skip bin will vary depending on the type of waste you have. Green waste will have a different cost to construction waste or household waste. Due to the varying price per tonne that we pay for dumping fees (e.g. dumping fees for construction waste can be almost four times that of green waste).

Check our waste guide page for more information.

How long you need it for

The total fee for your skip bin includes hire for up to 7 days. If you need your skip bin for longer than a week, you can just give us a call to arrange an extension. This will be an additional fee.

Skip bin hire problems that could cost you

At Earth Wise Skips, we will discuss your waste type and amount with you, and then quote you a price based on the best skip bin for your needs. This price includes 7-day hire, pickup and delivery fees, dumping fees and GST.

However there are some small issues to watch out for during your hire period. These could cost you more money, but are easy to avoid:

Moving Your Bin

Once we place the bin on your property, it should stay where it is. However, if you need to move the bin, you must call us to arrange it, not try to do it yourself. We will send someone out for an additional fee.

Needing a council permit for skip bin hire

You will need a permit from your local council to place a skip bin on a footpath or road. The council will probably charge you an application fee and a bond for the permit. There are different prices for residential and commercial use. Here is a guide to follow on Queensland council regulations in regards to hire.

If you breach the council’s regulations relating to the location of your skip bin, your council may also fine you.

Damaging the skip bin hire

It’s important to look after the skip bin after we deliver it to you. You will need to pay Earth Wise Skips for any damage caused to the skip bin while it’s on your property.

Putting in different or prohibited waste type

If the waste type you put in the skip bin is different than the type discussed at your booking, we may need to charge extra fees to remove it. Also, if any prohibited or dangerous items end up in the bin, additional charges and even legal charges could apply.

3 ways to save money on your skip bin hire

  • Get the right bin for your needs. Be aware of how much you have so you can get the right size.
  • Donate as much as you can before you book a skip bin. Some charities collect any items that are in good condition.
  • Find out if anyone in your street or area wants to share a skip bin – you could split the cost.
